FOURTH CHAPTER MEETING
Jay Ryan
THURSDAY 2ND APRIL. 8:00pm. GCC Room 201
By David Elfving; “Even if you don’t know his name, you know his work. Jay Ryan’s posters have been plastered all over Chicago – in record stores, coffee shops, music venues and in bedrooms, art studios and cubicles. His distinctive illustrations and handwriting grace his work and give his posters that edge, the kind that makes you want to tear down the poster even though the show advertised isn’t over yet, just so you can have a piece of his work.”The AIGA chapter had the pleasure of an informal Q&A with Jay Ryan. Jay also showed more of his huge poster collection and answered a variety of questions from the 20 or so members who attended the meeting.
The second part of the meeting involved more information about our collaboration with the Student Green Electronics Campaign to help them promote awareness of their electronics recycling event at the end of this semester.
There are three things they want from us:
1. Posters (larger size, from the Activities Office) – Simple, black and white graphics, no shading because of the printer – use information from #3 event campaign flier DUE: May 6th (study day)
2. Teaser campaign fliers – use shocking image, attention getter – why recycling electronics is important – brought to you by the Student Green Electronics Campaign DUE: Thursday, April 23rd Amount: 100
3. Event campaign flier – Saturday, May 9th – 10 am – 2 pm – Geisert Patio – Recycling for Illinois – Take anything with a plug! – Examples: curling irons, radios, TV’s, computers, etc. DUE: Thursday, April 30th Amount: 100
Leah Moran is our contact from the SGEC. She will be sending us the copy to use on the posters. She will also take care of the printing. We just need to give her a hard copy of the posters. If anyone has questions, feel free to email her or Gary.

Meghan Miller, Aaron Schleichkorn We could still use some more people to work on these posters. We would like as many people as possible to come up with multiple ideas so we can choose which designs will work the best. Green Electronics + Study Abroad
THIRD CHAPTER MEETING
THURSDAY 12th FEBRUARY. 8:00pm. GCC Room 212
Three items on the agenda for this, the first meeting of the spring semester. First, the chapter was joined by the two members of the Students Green Electronics Campaign. SGEC President, Leah Moran outlined the organizations mission to reduce electronic waste on campus, with particular emphasis on an event set in May when all students will have the opportunity to donate their obsolete electronic items (from toasters and computers, to microwaves and refrigerators). Both the SGEC and the AIGA chapter are looking into ways that they can collaborate, with the latter being involved in the design of all the promotional materials for the event.
The second item was a short movie sent by the AIGA main headquarters in New York. It used the services of many well known designers to promote the organization ad emphasized how important it is to be part of the world’s largest ‘collective’ of creatives.
Finally, those students who were fortunate enough to go on the J term study abroad trip to London as part of Professor Will’s Creative Strategy class presented a powerpoint show to the rest of the chapter on their experiences, with particular emphasis on the class itself.
As always, good food and good company made this another successful chapter meeting.

‘Full House’ Chapter meeting
SECOND CHAPTER MEETINGGreg Samata at AIGA
THURSDAY 20th NOVEMBER 8:00pm GCC Reading Room
Following on from his Visual Voices presentation, Greg Samata, graphic designers and film maker, spent the first half of this AIGA chapter meeting answering questions from members. The Q&A could have easily gone on all night, but the chapter needed to move on to the second item on the agenda – selecting three posters from the members to be submitted to the HOW poster competition. The votes went to the three posters seen here. Good luck to Emily, Sarah, and Ryan.
As usual, soda and pizza flowed and prizes ranged from Subway gift cards to STEP Inside Design magazine subscriptions.

A New BU AIGA + Conference of a lifetime!
FIRST CHAPTER MEETING 2008/2009THURSDAY 23rd OCTOBER
8:00pm GCC Reading Room
This inaugral meeting of the academic year was open to graphic design and multimedia non AIGA members. Turn out was excellent with over 25 students keen to see what the AIGA was about (and to eat the free pizza!). The executve committee began by introducing themselves and then outlined all the reasons why students should join the chapter. To help reinforce the committee, Valerie Hebda, senior designer at the Chicago Children’s Museum, joined the meeting via iSight and went on to give more reasons to join as well as talking about her own job description.
Best questions on the night won prizes and in addition, the first five students to show proof of membership subscription with the AIGA also received Starbucks gift cards.
All subsequent meetings will be for members only. If you wish to join please do so online at www.aiga.org. Be sure to indicate affiliation with Bradley University and the main Chicago chapter.
In addition, students who went to the AGI Conference in Chicago, spoke about their incredible two day experience, listening to ‘legends’ of design and participating in small workshops with the likes of Rick Valicenti, Paula Scher and the iconic co founder of PushPin Studios – Seymour Chwast.

Portfolio’s and Farewell’s
FINAL AIGA CHAPTER MEETING
MONDAY 5th MAY 8:00pm GCC Reading Room
This final meeting was very student oriented in that it had the senior graphic design students discussing/showing their portfolio’s and senior projects to the group, followed by Eli Davis, Visual Communication graduate student in her final year, talking about the differences between graduate and undergraduate studies and showing examples of her current work. The meeting ended with elections of the 08/09 executive committee board.
Well done to the current board for a good year of speakers and events and we look forward to many new members for the next years activities.

Skip Dampier chats to BU Chapter
AIGA CHAPTER MEETING – MARCH 27th 2008Skip Dampier
This well attended chapter meeting followed on from the evenings Visual Voices lecture by SKIP DAMPIER.
Dampier, has more than 20 years of experience in the design field. Since 2005 he has been a partner, chief creative director and strategist for Tocquigny (Tockeeny), a marketing and branding firm based in Austin, Texas. He has developed a proven track record of leading strategic initiatives for a wide range of clients, and has a broad range of hands-on experience with some of the world’s most respected brands. Prior to his current position at Tocquigny, Skip managed and nurtured creative organizations, processes, and products with Strascina & Partners in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Peoria firms Simantel and Ross Creative + Strategy. Skip has garnered numerous awards for his work, including being published in the Graphis Design, Interactive, and Packaging Annuals, Print’s Regional Design Annual, Creativity Annual, US Ad Review, Design 2K Annual, as well as winning the BMA of New York ACE Award, hundreds of ADDY Awards, 17 TELLY Awards, and NAMA National Best of Show.
The chapter meeting followed it’s successful Q&A formula, with prizes for the best questions on the night. Additionally, members were reminded that the next meeting will be the final one of the academic year and part of that meeting will involve electing a new exectutive committee. So, if you are a graphic design student, an AIGA member (or will be by the start of the fall semester) and want to serve on this committee, please contact the current Co-Presidents, Jenn Oster and Julie Longenecker to let them know in advance of the meeting.

Q&A with Creative Logic
AIGA CHAPTER MEETING – FEBRUARY 7th 2008The first AIGA chapter meeting of the new year saw guest speaker Brent Lindstrom, Co-Principal of Creative Logic, Peoria, give an entertaining insight into the workings of one of the region’s successful design and marketing companies. The Q&A mixed easily with pizza and soda as the aiga student members enquired about Creative Logic, it’s clients and the industry in general.
In addition, the HATHEAD.COM entries were reviewed, with the strongest one’s to be sent off to Rule 29 in Chicago for final judging. The winning entry on the night was by Nicole Blackburn (below) and was selected by Associate Professor Gary Will, Chapter Advisor.All members present at the meeting received a limited edition poster designed by Yann Legendre of Tanagram, Chicago

Lance Rutter visits BU AIGA Chapter meeting
SEPTEMBER 27th 2007After the Visual Voices Lecture we hosted our guest speaker, Lance Rutter, in the GCC Reading Room for the first AIGA Bradley Chapter meeting of the 2007-2008 academic year.
About 20 students attended, and entertained Lance with their design-related questions for the next hour.
After Lance’s time was over, Bradley AIGA co-presidents Julie Longenecker and Jenn Oster introduced themselves and the exec. board to the students, and encouraged them to become members of AIGA. In addition, future meetings and events (such as SEEK) were outlined.
Some students joined Lance and Bradley professors Gary Will and Robert Rowe at One World Cafe after the meeting for continued questions and socialization.
