The Department of Art at Bradley offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in studio art and art history. The department also coordinates cultural programs, exhibitions and lectures. Facilities are located in the Heuser Art Center and the Caterpillar Global Communications Center. Heuser Art Center is a 33,000 sq. ft. facility with fully-equipped studios for ceramics, painting, printmaking and photography and sculpture..

ART 106 3-D Design

Course Description
This is a foundation course that introduces design principles, aesthetic considerations and basic techniques of working as they relate to the creation of three-dimensional art. It will prepare students for the three-dimensional studio areas and enhance the creation of two-dimensional art and virtual three-dimensional work.

ART 213 Beginning Sculpture 1

Course Description
This is a beginning sculpture course that incorporates the design principles learned in foundation courses with aesthetic and content considerations. Basic techniques of working, as they relate to the creation of three-dimensional art, will be taught. The course will involve instruction in, and student investigation of, several methods of additive and reductive manipulation of materials. The materials used will include, but not be limited to, steel, stone, and wood.

ART 214 Beginning Sculpture 2

Course Description
This is a beginning sculpture course, which builds on design principles, aesthetic considerations and basic techniques of working as they relate to the creation of three-dimensional art that were introduced in foundations classes. Specifically, the course will concentrate on casting techniques including pattern making, modeling in wax and clay and transfer of the image to plaster, bronze and aluminum. Processes will involve cope and drag casting, transfer moldmaking and investment moldmaking, pouring molten non-ferrous metals, and finishing cast metal works through chasing and other surface cleanup, patination and sealing.

Course Description
This course is designed for the creation of sculpture in a variety of materials.  Design principles, aesthetic considerations and techniques of working are presented to and applied by students throughout the semester.  As an upper level sculpture class, students will begin to direct their studies into the ideas and materials most appropriate for their emerging sculptural voices.
