ART 213 Beginning Sculpture 1
Course Description
This is a beginning sculpture course that incorporates the design principles learned in foundation courses with aesthetic and content considerations. Basic techniques of working, as they relate to the creation of three-dimensional art, will be taught. The course will involve instruction in, and student investigation of, several methods of additive and reductive manipulation of materials. The materials used will include, but not be limited to, steel, stone, and wood.
Course Objectives
A primary objective is to heighten awareness of design principles, and to refine aesthetic values, through sculpture created by the student. Exploration of the visual communication of thoughts, opinions, desires and beliefs at various levels of understanding from the artist to the viewer is also of primary importance. Interaction with peers and professionals will add to this process. Physical experimentation during project work will develop creative problem solving skills. Knowledge of materials and manual dexterity with tools will be increased.
