Aurora De Armendi Sobrino

Bio

Aurora De Armendi Sobrino was born and raised in Cuba and lives in New Paltz, NY. Through a balance of scholarly and material research, her artwork has taken the form of artist books, prints, video, ceramics and drawings exploring the poetics of place and displacement and the singular and collective histories and memories therein.

De Armendi Sobrino received an MFA from The University of Iowa and a BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art in New York. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Wave Hill Garden, the International Print Center, and the Instituto Cervantes in NYC; the San Francisco Center for Book Arts; the Minnesota Center for Book Arts; the MDCC Museum at the Freedom Tower in Miami; Fototeca de Cuba, Havana; and Biblioteca de Cantabria, Spain, among others. Parallel to her studio practice, she serves in the role of Assistant Professor in Printmaking in the Art Department at SUNY New Paltz, New Paltz, NY.
